anthroponymy: A branch of onomastics that studies the names of human beings.
archive: A collection of historical records. An archive can also refer to the location where the records are kept. They are often helpful for finding family ancestry records.
Cambridge reference sequence: A specific DNA sequence that is constant. The Cambridge reference sequence is compared with both Hyper-Variable Region tests in an mtDNA test.
circumstantial evidence: A collection of facts that, when considered together, can be used to infer a conclusion about something unknown. In many cases, this is used to find familial relationships.
clan: A group of people united by kinship and descent. Clans are defined by perceived descent from a common ancestor.
coat of arms: A European tradition of creating a design belonging to a particular person or group of people. They were often used as emblems for particular families.
